Joseph Nezgoda, MD, MBA, FASRS is a fellowship trained retina specialist in Palm Beach County, FL focusing on the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, inflammatory eye disease and other diseases of the retina and vitreous.
Dr. Nezgoda completed his fellowship in medical and surgical diseases at the University of California and has been a researcher at the world-renown National Institutes of Health. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Nezgoda graduated with honors from Georgetown University. He attended medical school at Rutgers-UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he received several scholarships including the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Nezgoda also received the Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Nezgoda performed post-graduate training at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, Mount Sinai, NY, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Case Western University and the prestigious Cleveland Medical Center.
Dr. Nezgoda has also done humanitarian work in India to fight blindness. For his contributions to the field he received the both esteemed Leadership in Medicine Award from the American Medical Association and the Senior Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has served on numerous editorial review boards, authored several papers and book chapters, served as an investigator and sub-investigator on retinal disease studies, and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. Dr. Nezgoda was elected President of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and serves on the Boards of the Museum of the Eye in San Francisco and the Eye Care Foundation.
Dr. Nezgoda holds an M.B.A. degree from Rutgers University, which he earned simultaneously while attending Medical School. He is Licensed to practice medicine in Florida and Board Certified in Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Nezgoda speaks conversational Spanish and Italian. During his training, Dr. Nezgoda studied abroad in both Belgium and Italy, and he is still an avid fan of traveling. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, cooking, music, tennis and classic cinema. His all-time favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart.
